Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Portraits

Do you work from photographs or live sittings?
Since most pets are reluctant to sit for a portrait, and our customers are located all over the country, we ask for 2 or more good, clear photographs.  Please indicate the main ones to work from, and include notes to help us determine the best expression, coloring, etc.   See our Tips for Photographing Your Pet. All photographs will be returned to customer.

Do You Do Posthumous or "Memorial" Portraits?

Many people ask if it is possible to have a portrait painted of a pet that has passed away, using one or two snapshots that still exist.  As above, the quality of the photos is key to obtaining an accurate finished portrait.  In a case like this, you should send the pictures you have for us to review. The artist will contact you to discuss with you what possible. Please be assured that the artist will always undertake to do the best job possible given the original source material, and will always try very hard to capture the personality, likeness, and qualities of the breed of pet.  However, this can sometimes be extremely difficult from a single or poor snapshot.

Can you combine /images from more than one photograph into a single painting?
Yes, we can! You can send several photographs and have pets and/or people from them placed together into a single portrait. Simply give us detailed instructions when placing your order, telling us how you want the artist to combine these photos into one painting. We don't charge extra for this service.

How long does a portrait take?

Waiting times can vary depending on the medium (pastel or oil) and work load. Please allow a minimum of two weeks for any deadline. (Shorter deadlines can be met if necessary - please contact us to arrange)

  • Pastel paintings can be completed and shipped within 1 week, upon customer approval of final image.  For Christmas orders - Pastel painting orders must be submitted no later than November 30th.

  • Oil paintings take a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks to complete and for drying time. We will try to accommodate rush orders if possible. No oil painting orders for Christmas delivery will be accepted after November 25th.

What happens when the portrait is finished ?
Once the portrait is finished, the artist will provide a photo of the finished portrait by e-mail attachment or US mail for your approval. You can request any changes prior to final shipment.

What about Payment ?

We accept credit cards through PayPal. Payments by check or money order should be made out payable to:  "Citty Kitty Enterprises".
