Profile of Pet Portrait Artist

The human behind PetXpressions is noted San Francisco graphic artist R.J. Romero. Since childhood, drawing and painting have been her passion. A professional visual artist for over 30 years, her multi-media landscapes, pet portraits, and figurative paintings have been exhibited in Santa Fe galleries and art shows across the United States.  

R.J. Romero’s love of drawing and painting reaches back to her childhood in Tucson, Arizona. While living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she studied with renowned artists Clark Hulings and Roy Grinnell. In 1999, Rita moved to San Francisco to be nearer to the dynamic art scene.

The artist's ability to capture the expressions and personality of each subject have made her pet portraits especially popular with pet owners.  With an eye for detail and mastery of anatomy, R.J. Romero uses traditional ‘old master’ techniques to produce vibrant images in her pastel or oil paintings. 

Pet Expressions portraits are true original works of art, hand rendered to clients' specifications. They are not digitally manipulated photos that are printed on paper or canvas, like some websites who market cheap portraits from photos on the internet. Each R.J. Romero portrait is a unique creation by the artist, using the materials and techniques utilized by master portrait painters for centuries. 

"I don't consider a portrait a successful work of art until it takes on a life of its own." 

The artist also produces fine art and takes commissions for custom art work.
